ABOUT RETRO GROUP

36+ Years of Getting it Right on BC's Most Demanding Structures

Most contractors offer restoration as one of many services.

Retro was built around the belief that complex concrete rehabilitation requires engineering-led thinking, honest assessments and experienced people who understand how structures fail—and how to restore them properly.

Trusted Where the Work Gets Complex

Engineering-Led From the First Conversation

Every project we take on starts the same way. With a conversation that includes the engineer of record. Not one that happens after them.
We know that restoration work done without proper engineering input tends to get redone. Before anything is specified, we ensure that we understand what the structure is actually dealing with — the root cause, not just the visible symptom.

That means asking questions some contractors skip, flagging conditions that complicate the repair, and being direct about scope. Even when it's not what the client hoped to hear.

It's a slower way to start a project. It's a faster way to finish one.
OUR HISTORY

Building Stronger Infrastructure Since 1989

From the start, Retro Group has been helping owners, engineers, consultants, and contractors protect, restore, and strengthen British Columbia's built infrastructure.
1989

Seeing the Gap Before Anyone Else

As B.C.’s construction market accelerated after Expo 86, Retro saw a need the province hadn’t yet filled: a technically sophisticated specialty contractor.

The company was founded to bring that expertise to a market ready for it.
The 1990s

Built on Commitment

Retro grew by doing the work others overlooked. No call unreturned, no lead unfollowed and no job too small.

That commitment helped the company expand into institutional work, the pulp mill sector and the leaky condo market that shaped B.C. construction through the decade.
Early 2000s

Back to Specialty

Retro returned its focus to the specialty contracting sector where it started. That focus has held for more than 25 years, and it's where the company's deepest expertise lives.
Then and Now

Leading Before the Market Catches Up

Retro introduced FRP structural strengthening to BC before most Canadian contractors had heard of it. The same instinct drove earlier work in firestopping and smoke sealing.

The pattern hasn't changed. Identify where the industry is heading and get there first.
Today and Beyond

The Phone Doesn't Ring on Its Own

Thousands of projects. Decades of long-term client relationships. The same appetite for solving problems other contractors would rather avoid.

That's what 36+ years of specialty contracting looks like when you stay committed to your creed.

Protect. Restore. Strengthen. Extend.

Meet the Retro Team

Retro is a small, experienced team. Everyone here has been doing this long enough to know that the details matter. And that the person on the other end of a project call needs straight answers, not reassurance.

Recognized for award-winning specialty work

Retro Specialty Contractors received the 2025 SWA Trillium Award for its work on The Oakridge Centre Redevelopment, recognized in the New Construction category.

Presented by the Sealant and Waterproofing Association of Canada, the Trillium Award celebrates standout projects shaped by the collaboration of a contractor, manufacturer and allied professional. For Retro, the recognition speaks to the technical skill, coordination and care required to deliver complex work at scale.
